Copyright
Copyright protection is provided by the laws of the United States
and other countries to the creators of “original works of
authorship.” This Web site is such a work and is protected by
copyright law. United States Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.) restricts
unauthorized use of copyrighted material. Potential users must obtain
permission from the copyright holder, in this case, the League of Women
Voters of the United States. For material owned by other parties who
have given the League of Women Voters permission to post their
copyright material on the League Web site, all users are responsible
for obtaining permission from the copyright holder.
Fair Use
Fair use is a concept unique to the United States allowing minimal
use of copyrighted material, usually for private study, without
permission of the copyright holder. Such use can include news
reporting, criticism, research and education, e.g., quotations of
excerpts in a review, brief passages quoted in scholarly works.
Personal Use and Commercial Use
Excluding fair use, personal as well as commercial use of material
owned by the League of Women Voters requires written permission from
the League of Women Voters of the United States. Requests must
include specific information regarding use and a full identification of
the item (e.g., specific image or title plus content of publication) to
be used.
Further information and written requests for permission should be
