Local Voices: Citizen Conversations on Civil Liberties and Secure Communities
In 2005, with generous funding from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the LWVEF launched "Local Voices: Citizen Conversations on Civil Liberties and Secure Communities." This project had three main components: public deliberations in ten communities across the country, focus groups and quantitative public opinion research to explore attitudes and values toward homeland security and civil liberties. In 2004, the National Association of Broadcasters launched a new partnership with the League of Women Voters to provide radio and television stations across the country with detailed information and expert perspective on how they can help boost voter turnout in their communities. The Voter Turnout: Let’s Turn it Up! guidebook is a resource for local broadcasters and local Leagues, as well as other community groups interested in promoting voter participation.
