WHAT: U.S. Senatorial Debate between Candidates George F. Allen and James H. "Jim" Webb, Jr.

WHEN: Monday, October 9, 2006 at 8:00pm.

WHERE: Community of Ideas Station in Richmond, VA.

HOSTS: League of Women Voters of Virginia

DETAILS: The debate broadcast will be produced by WTVR-TV, Richmond and PBS WCVE-WHTJ, Richmond. The following are a list of stations that will be broadcasting the debate:

  • WCVE Richmond (live)
  • WHTJ Charlottesville (live as WHTJ is a "repeater" station of the WCVE signal)
  • WHRO Norfolk (live)
  • WBRA Roanoke (live)
  • WVPT Harrisonburg (live)
  • WETA Washington (Monday, October 9 at 11:00pm)
  • WNVC Washington (Sunday, October 15 at 8:00am)

Russ Mitchell, CBS Sunday Evening News Anchor and co-anchor of the Saturday Early Show will moderate the debate that will include a live studio audience.*

WTVR-TV Weekend Co-Anchor and Reporter Ric Young, May Lily-Lee, Senior Producer and Host of Virginia Currents, an award-winning news magazine series produced by Commonwealth Public Broadcasting, and Lulu Meese, LWVVA President will make up the three person panel of questioners.

The debate format will provide for opening and closing remarks by the candidates as well as an opportunity for the candidates to direct questions to each other. Both the moderator and panel members will also ask questions of the candidates.

*Twenty seats in the live audience will be made available to the press/media on a first come, first served basis. There will be space for additional media in an overflow room with an IMAX simulcast of the debate. Tickets for the overflow room also will be required and distributed on a first come first basis.
