Major
Lobby Reform Package Becomes Law
League of Women Voters Hails
Path-Breaking Bundling Disclosure
Washington, DC-
League of Women Voters President Mary G. Wilson made the following
statement today regarding the historic lobbying and ethics reform
package becoming law:
“Rarely do we have the
opportunity to congratulate our leaders for doing the right thing in
this area. Congress actually did the right thing on lobbying
reform.”
“The
House and Senate have taken a major step that will clean up their own
activities, and the League looks forward to seeing these reforms
implemented fully.”
“Leaders Pelosi and Reid, as well as the vast bipartisan
group of Representatives and Senators who voted for these reforms,
deserve praise for making good on their campaign promises to limit the
undue influence lobbyists hold over our lawmaking
process.”
“League members are
particularly encouraged that the final version of this legislation
includes, for the first time, a path-breaking bundling disclosure
requirement that will bring lobbyists’ fundraising practices from
the shadows of the backroom into the light.”

Voters members have long worked to improve ethics
and lobbying practices in Congress. Click hereto read the collection of League letters sent to
