What information does www.LWV.org collect from Web site
visitors and how is this information used?
When you visit the League of Women Voters’ Web site, your
browser automatically sends us an Internet Protocol ("IP") address and
certain other information (including the type of browser you use). We
will use this IP address and other information to manage our Web
site.
We will ask you to provide additional contact information, which may
include your name, street address, city, state, zip code, phone number
and billing information, depending upon which of the following you wish
to do:
- receive our monthly electronic newsletter The
LeaguE-Voice;
- receive our electronic Grassroots Lobby Corps Action Alerts;
- order our publications or other products;
- make a contribution;
- join or renew as a League member.
The League may, from time to time, share the name and mailing address
of its non-member financial supporters with other non-profit
organizations. Members and supporters, (such as donors, Grassroots
Lobby Corps and LeaguE-Voice recipients) may also receive
additional communications from the League, such as occasional news and
alerts about the issues on which we work.
The League will not rent, sell or trade your email address or
phone number with any third party.
All League members registering to access the
members-only area of the Web site for the
first time will receive a welcoming email to verify password and
username.
Like many Web sites, we use "cookie" technology. A "cookie" is
a piece of data stored on the user's machine that enables the browser to
store and recall information and only has meaning to the League's Web
site. This cookie is used to facilitate access to www.lwv.org. Some portions of the
League's Web site are hosted by vendors providing services to the
League, such as our online voter registration tool (VoteNet) and our
grassroots advocacy tool (Capitol Advantage); these vendors have their
own privacy policies. Read them here (Capitol Advantage,
VoteNet).
For general information on cookies, you may want to consult http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/c/cookie.html
How do we protect your information?
The League takes every precaution available to us to protect our Web
site users’ information. When users submit sensitive

and off-line. Our servers are in a locked, secure data center. Our
online transactions (join, donate, etc.) use a secure server and
encryption to protect your personal information during processing.
How can you contact the League about your information?
You may contact the League by emailing us at membership@lwv.org or phoning us at
202/429-1965 to facilitate a review of your personal information and
request corrections. A financial supporter may request that the League
withhold mailing information from any mailing list exchanges with other
