Projects
In this section you will find information and resources on the League's current agenda, including project and program work.

Civil Liberties & Homeland Security
Since September 11, 2001, the LWVUS has worked to engage our Leagues and the public in addressing civil liberties and security concerns. We are committed to the notion that informed discussions nationwide promote an understanding of the issues and what the U.S. needs to do to protect civil liberties as well as what it can and cannot do to assure security at home and abroad.

Global Democracy
The Global Democracy Program is the League of Women Voters’ program for activists and nongovernmental organizations worldwide. Working with groups abroad to increase their voice in stressing transparency, accountability, and good governance in their societies, the League assists in expanding community influence in public policy-making processes while helping citizens build leadership skills through interactive, hands-on training and citizen exchange programs. The League of Women Voters is registered as a Private Voluntary Organization with USAID and is part of the Registry of Civil Society Organizations with the Organization of American States.

Openness in Government
The League of Women Voters is committed to openness in government. Finding information about how the government is serving the public has always been somewhat difficult. But in the post-9/11 age, these challenges are even greater. In the name of homeland security, “sunshine” laws and the opportunities for citizens to gain access to information have been constricted.

Safeguarding U.S. Democracy: The Quest for a More Diverse Judiciary
The League of Women Voters continues to work to promote the importance of fair and impartial courts nation-wide. During the next two years, 2009-2011, the League will focus on promoting diversity at all levels of the state judiciary to enhance the legitimacy of our system of justice in the eyes of an increasingly diverse public.

The State of Climate Change
The League of Women Voters believes that now is the time to act on global climate change. We can reduce global warming pollution by using existing technologies to make power plants and factories more efficient, make cars go farther on a gallon of gasoline, and shift to cleaner technologies. Cities, states and individuals are already adopting many of these solutions, which also reduce our dependence on oil, reduce air pollution, and protect pristine places from oil drilling and mining. State and local initiatives are proving that answers exist. In August 2008, the League called for a moratorium on new construction of coal-fired electric power plants.
