MEDIA ADVISORY- (INSERT DATE)

What:  [NAME OF YOUR GROUP] hosts debate watching party for the (INSERT NAME OF OFFICE) Candidate Debate.

When:  (INSERT DATE AND TIME)

Where: (INSERT LOCATION)

Why:  Debate watching parties bring community members together to discuss the important issues in our elections. Debates provide an opportunity to become engaged in the election process by doing more than voting – by being able to cast an informed vote.

According to Mary G. Wilson, national President of the League of Women Voters, “Debates help voters learn more about the candidates and where they stand on important issues.  Debates provide one of the only opportunities for voters to hear the candidates explain their positions in their own words without the filter of campaign ad sound bites.”

In addition to encouraging debate watching party, the League of Women Voters is working on several projects to increase voter participation and citizen involvement among young voters.
