These often underappreciated individuals are the everyday heroes that ensure our government is the best in the world. This week we got the exciting news, that along with our coalition partners, we’ve collected nearly one million comments on the Environmental Protection Agency‘s (EPA) new Industrial Carbon Regulation! Our coalition partners have already delivered these comments over and presented them to the EPA, but we’re not done yet – submit your comment today!
We are all aware that the huge amount of special interest money, particularly in federal races, has been a problem for years. We also know that these problems have been magnified by the Supreme Court ruling in the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission case which unleashed corporate spending for supposedly independent campaign expenditures and which has resulted in millions and millions of dollars in secret contributions.
Florida voters suffered a setback this week as judges ruled to allow implementation of both the congressional and reworked state Senate redistricting maps, despite repeated challenges by the League and other groups on the grounds the maps violated new Fair Districts standards in the state. The League had previously celebrated a victory when the Supreme Court ordered the legislature to redraw its original Senate plan.
Today, May 1, Leagues around the country are observing Law Day, the annual celebration of our nation's commitment to the rule of law This year's American Bar Association Law Day theme--"No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom"--seeks to underscore the importance of the courts in ensuring access to justice for all Americans.
