Dr. Toni Larson is a member of the Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS) and the Board of Trustees of the League of Women Voters Education Fund (LWVEF). She was elected in June 2012.
Dr. Larson joined the League in 1970 in Boulder, Colorado. After moving to Denver, she joined committees working on environmental issues. More recently, she has worked on fiscal policy, education, and privatization. She served as president of the Denver Metropolitan League of Women Voters and the League of Women Voters of Colorado; she has also held other leadership positions within League.
Professionally, Dr. Larson has held the position of executive director of Independent Higher Education of Colorado, a nonprofit association that conducts the government relations work for private colleges in Colorado, since 1985. She has responsibility for public policy research, lobbying and administration.
Dr. Larson received a B.A. from Colorado College, a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Regis University and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Denver.
Other positions held by Dr. Larson include teaching at the junior and senior high school levels and lobbyist/government relations monitor for the League of Women Voters, the Colorado Environmental Lobby, Girl Scouts, United Way, Colorado Chapter of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives, the Colorado Association of Nonprofit Organization, and the Denver Center for Performing Arts. She has also been an affiliated faculty member at Regis University and the University of Denver.
She received the Distinguished Service Award - Denver Regional Council of Governments, an Excellence in Teaching Award - Regis University, the Alan O. Pfnister Academic Excellence Award - University of Denver and the dissertation of the year award - Association for the Study of Higher Education.
