    WOMEN'S LEADERS LEADING THE WAY FOR POSITIVE CHANGE IN SERBIA

    Over 150 women from different cities in Serbia - all - leaders in different professions convened in Belgrade on March 9, 10 and 11 to discuss how to lead the way for positive change in Serbia. The official opening took place March 9th at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia hosted by the speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Dr. Slavica Dukic Dejanovic and attended by the U.S. Ambassador to Serbia, H. E. Mary Burce Warlick and Elizabeth Sullivan, Senior Policy Advisor, Office of Global Women's Issues, U.S. Department of State.

    International Conference on Women's Leadership in Belgrade, Serbia

    The Conference will gather leading women leaders from Serbia, the United States and South East Europe from academia, politics, business, science, and civil society.  The goal of the conference is to create an effective network of women leaders.  The Conference is being organized by the Serbian-American Women's Leadership Network with the support of the President of the National Parliament of Serbia, Ms. Slavica Djukic Dejanovic.

    Democratic Participation and Reform in Bangladesh

    Under a contract with Democracy International (DI) the League will advise DI-Bangladesh on different activities that will be created to demonstrate to party leaders the value of increasing their share of women’s voters and of supporting and backing women candidates. To accomplish this goal DI-Bangladesh will create seven Women’s Centers that will undertake outreach,  training, and create a women’s awareness program to enhance the Centers’ work.

    Discover the New Russia: A Travel Journal - May 11-23, 2009

    The League of Women Voters has hosted delegations of Russians in the United States as part of the Open World Leadership Center (OWLC) since 2005.  From May 11th - May 23rd, 2009, a League delegation traveled throughout Russia to the cities of Moscow, Kaluga, and St. Petersburg to visit with local partners and with twenty three former participants of the hosting program.

    PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY IN UKRAINE - 1995-2009

    The League’s experience in Ukraine dates back to 1995 and to its project “Strengthening Women’s Rights in the Newly Independent States.”  Through this project, the League provided technical training and assistance to women’s nongovernmental organizations to ensure the sustained role of women in developing and monitoring the rule of law in Ukraine and in Russia.  As part of this program, and in partnership with the Moscow Center for Gender Studies and the Ukrainian Center for Women Studies, the League sponsored a grassroots exchange program in the United States for 20 women leaders from Russ
