    Clean Community Coalition of Southern Armenia - Study Tour September 2009

    Meeting with Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY)

    The League of Women Voters organized a Study Tour in Washington DC for the newly formed Clean Community Coalition of Southern Armenia.  The tour for five Armenians took place in September 2009 to illustrate through meetings and site visits how trash collection, landfills, and other waste management issues are handled in the United States.  The participants also used this opportunity to deepen their knowledge and hone their advocacy skills.

    Discover the New Russia: A Travel Journal - May 11-23, 2009

    The League of Women Voters has hosted delegations of Russians in the United States as part of the Open World Leadership Center (OWLC) since 2005.  From May 11th - May 23rd, 2009, a League delegation traveled throughout Russia to the cities of Moscow, Kaluga, and St. Petersburg to visit with local partners and with twenty three former participants of the hosting program.

    Women in the Americas: Path to Political Power

    In 2007 a small group of distinguished women political leaders from Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States met at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, for a roundtable discussion on the dramatic advances achieved by women seeking public office in the past ten years—and the challenges currently facing women in electoral politics.

    Kenyans Working Together for Good Governance - 2005-2007

    In 2005 the League of Women Voters in partnership with the National Council of Women of Kenya began a two-year program to strengthen democracy and democratic practices in Kenya.  Kenyans Working Together for Good Governance: Civil Society, Government, and Members of Parliament was designed to ignite an effective engagement among members of parliament, appointed district commissioners, and members of local civil society groups. The League and the National Council began working together in 1999 during the League's program Woman Power in Politics: Building Grassroots Democracy in Africa.

    Coaching NGOs in Armenia for Effective Advocacy - 2008-2009

    After traveling to Yerevan to attend the international conference "The Role of NGOs in the Public Policy Process" and after listening to the needs identified by local participants, the League submitted in August 2007 a concept paper recommending that local Armenian nongovernmental organizations be coached on effective advocacy skills.

    PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY IN UKRAINE - 1995-2009

    The League’s experience in Ukraine dates back to 1995 and to its project “Strengthening Women’s Rights in the Newly Independent States.”  Through this project, the League provided technical training and assistance to women’s nongovernmental organizations to ensure the sustained role of women in developing and monitoring the rule of law in Ukraine and in Russia.  As part of this program, and in partnership with the Moscow Center for Gender Studies and the Ukrainian Center for Women Studies, the League sponsored a grassroots exchange program in the United States for 20 women leaders from Russ

    Women Making a Difference in Zambia - 2006

    The League of Women Voters conducted a 4-day workshop titled “Women Making a Difference” in conjunction with the Public Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy and the Women’s Lobby Group of Zambia. The program sought to share ideas on the participation of Zambian women in the elections of 2006.

    Civic and Voter Education and Training Poll Monitors in Malawi - 2004

    Under contract from Management Systems International (MSI) and funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the League of Women Voters provided technical assistance to four local nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in Malawi in preparation for the May 20, 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections.
