It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost time to flip the calendar to 2012. In the coming year, we will be active on many fronts, but with special emphasis on providing the public with all the information they need to navigate the election system, learn the issues, and vote for the candidates of their choice.
LWV Florida President, Deirdre Mcnab, appeared on MSNBC's Politics Nation with Al Sharpton to talk about restrictive third party voter registration laws in Florida. Earlier this year, the Florida League had to cease their voter registration activities, which they have performed without a problem for 72 years.
The High School Voter Registration Project is a nationwide effort to encourage young people--especially young minorities--to register to vote. Leagues are working in key states to engage and empower young people to participate in our democracy in 2012 and for years to come.
Why now?
The League of Women Voters is proud to celebrate 91 years of women voting. This Women’s Equality Day, we are grateful for all that our foremothers did to ensure women could actively participate in our political system, and we look forward to all that women will do in the future.
