Today is National Voter Registration Day, a nationwide effort to register thousands of voters on one single day! Last year over 300,000 new voters were registered on National Voter Registration Day alone. And this year, we’re thrilled to announce that even more partners, including more League of Women Voters volunteer teams, are out registering voters in their communities. 

On Tuesday, November 5, 2013, millions of Americans across the country will head to the polls to cast a vote. While there’s no major national election this year, voters will still have their say on issues important to them and their communities by deciding on 1,500 state-wide and local elections and ballot initiatives. From Governors’ races to city council bids, the leaders we elect will make important decisions on jobs, education, healthcare and other issues that affect our daily lives.

In the last two weeks, the Supreme Court has issued decisions on two monumental voting rights cases. Together these cases only underline how important it is for organizations like the League of Women Voters to do the vitally important work of bringing new voters into our political process by registering them.
