The League of Women Voters of New York State filed a lawsuit yesterday in United States District Court for the Southern District of New York asking that the Court postpone the June 28 primary for statewide offices to August 23.

The state’s highest court heard arguments on Tuesday on whether to uphold earlier rulings that voided maps drawn by Democrats as illegal gerrymanders.

ALBANY, NY - The League of Women Voters of New York State yesterday filed an amicus brief with the Appellate Division, Fourth Department in the case challenging the redistricting maps drawn by the Legislature after the Independent Redistricting Commission had failed to submit a second set of maps as required by the Constitutional amendment approved by voters in 2014.

Government watchdog groups are making a push to include ethics reform in the state budget. Governor Kathy Hochul promised to overhaul the state’s troubled ethics oversight commission, but so far, the proposal has not been agreed to by the Legislature.
