Enthusiasm Builds for Future of the League: MLD Program Trains 4 States in 4 Weeks
By: Sara SandersThis summer, the Membership and Leadership Development (MLD) program is providing training to local and state League leaders from nine states that are entering the program for the first time ever. After a wonderful financial out-pouring of support for the MLD program at the LWVUS Convention in June 2012, Cheryl, Carol, Kelly, and I (the League trainers for the MLD program) have been met with enthusiasm for the program and for the future of the League.

State League Coaches Leave Training Energized and Ready to Grow the League!

LWVUS to Train League Leaders to Make Big Impact This Election Year!
By: Sara SandersLWVUS Board and staff will be training some 30 League leaders from 9 states in Houston, TX on Friday, April 13 until Sunday, April 15, 2012. The training will bring together individuals who have volunteered to be state coaches as part of the Membership and Leadership Development (MLD) program, funded and provided by the LWVUS Leaders for Leadership Fund.

Nebraska League Speaks Out Against Proposed Voter ID Bill
With the Nebraska state legislature scheduled to start debate on January 18 on a proposed voter ID bill, the Nebraska League rallied in Omaha with other groups in opposition. Linda Duckworth, president of the League of Women Voters of Nebraska, noted that such legislation “unfairly targets citizens with low income, seniors, youth and citizens with disabilities.” Arguing that impersonation is not a problem in her state, she declared, “As a former English teacher, it pains me to say — if it ain't broke, don't fix it.” Read more here, here and here.
