UN Observer, Rosalee Keech, delivered her annual report to the LWVUS Board of Directors at a luncheon held in Washington, DC, March 24, 2012. Please check the report below.

Ms. Marta Santos Pais, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Violence Against Children, has just released the 2012 Annual Report on the state of the world's efforts to eradicate violence against children.  Ms. Santos Pais and her staff are working with the League's UN Observers in a project to bring awareness of trafficking of minors during major sporting events. 

 

Over 100 persons overflowed the Hardin Room at Church Center in New York City on Monday, February 27, to attend the League of Women Voters workshop on "Empowering Women Politically to Eradicate Poverty."  Diana Perez spoke eloquently about the slow progress for women in politics in Colombia; Begona Lasagabaster of UN WOMEN spoke about the exciting and difficult mandate UN WOMEN has ahead; and Zaida Arguedas spoke about the need to work strategically and cooperatively at the grassroots level to achiev

Thank you, Melanne for that very kind introduction, and for your extraordinary leadership, in a rather short tenure, you have already improved the lives of women not just in the United States, but of course, around the world. So thank you— for everything that you do each and every day.

I also want to thank Ambassador DiCarlo for welcoming us here today, of course my dear friend Susan Rice for her extraordinary leadership here at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations.

At a recent presentation by the Special Advisor to Executive Coordinator of UNCSD 2012 Rio+20, the following information was shared:

The United Nations launched a new web portal today focusing on helping girls and women access job opportunities, training and career advice in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector. 

In 1945, at the UN Charter Conference, the League of Women Voters was invited by President Harry Truman to serve as a consultant to the U.S. delegation. Since that time, the League has continued its presence at the United Nations through its one official and two alternate observers.
