Kenyans Working Together for Good Governance - 2005-2007

In 2005 the League of Women Voters in partnership with the National Council of Women of Kenya began a two-year program to strengthen democracy and democratic practices in Kenya.  Kenyans Working Together for Good Governance: Civil Society, Government, and Members of Parliament was designed to ignite an effective engagement among members of parliament, appointed district commissioners, and members of local civil society groups. The League and the National Council began working together in 1999 during the League's program Woman Power in Politics: Building Grassroots Democracy in Africa.

The national League board recognizes that fulfilling the requirements alone does not assure a smooth-running and viable League and that Leagues that employ certain practices that both enhance and supplement the requirements are usually the more successful Leagues.

The LWVUS bylaws state that the national League board “may grant full local League recognition to groups that have fulfilled the requirements of their state boards and those adopted by the national convention. These requirements are to be seen within the framework of the League’s mission statement and are to serve as a continuing gauge of a League’s health and wellbeing.

Coaching NGOs in Armenia for Effective Advocacy - 2008-2009

After traveling to Yerevan to attend the international conference "The Role of NGOs in the Public Policy Process" and after listening to the needs identified by local participants, the League submitted in August 2007 a concept paper recommending that local Armenian nongovernmental organizations be coached on effective advocacy skills.
