BMENA CIVIL SOCIETY REACH AGREEMENT ON FINAL DOCUMENT

Since 2004, the outset of the G8 BMENA Initiative, civil society participants from the region have held a "parallel" meeting concurrent with the meetings of the Forum. The 2012 Civil Society Preparatory Meeting, which included for the first time the participation of the private sector, was called to order at 9:00 am on Tuesday, December 11, under the leadership of the League of Women Voters and its Tunisian partners, ARFORGHE and the Tunisian American Chamber of Commerce.

League Signs On to Amicus Brief in Texas Voter Registration Case

Recent changes to Texas law make it extremely difficult for voter registration groups to sign up new voters, violating the First Amendment and the National Voter Registration Act, argues the Brennan Center for Justice in an amicus brief with the League of Women Voters and Rock the Vote. The amicus brief urges the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to block the Texas law and affirm a lower court decision that enjoined the harsh restrictions.
