Online Voter Registration

Over 26 states have, or will soon have, online voter registration. The proposed online voter registration bills in Florida and Texas would provide thousands of citizens the ability to easily register to take part in our democracy.

Watch our new video, which outlines five ways to improve our elections.

Last week, I sat with our national president, Elisabeth MacNamara as she connected state League presidents on conference calls to share their experiences with their state’s legislatures.

2 months into the 2015 State Legislative sessions, we have seen a groundswell of assaults on voters in many states. We have been working to fight these threats and advance voting opportunities.

The League was pleased to join dozens of voting rights advocates, state and local elections officials, congressional staff and academics at last week’s 2015 Voting and Elections Summit in Washington D.C.

Online voter registration is taking hold across the country. But almost every system leaves out a significant part of the population – citizens who don’t have a driver’s license or ID.

This morning, the Presidential Commission on Election Administration will present their report to the Senate Rules and Administration Committee. We urged consideration of a 5-point reform agenda.

“There are many good recommendations in this report and others that we will need to look at more closely to examine the real impact on American voters,” said League President Elisabeth MacNamara.

The League once again calls on the President and the nation's new elections commission to make bold changes to make elections free, fair and accessible.
