"I was pretty apolitical for the first 25 years of my life, but then I accidentally got a job teaching middle school social studies.

When I was teaching the Constitution it really hit me that all of us - including me! - run the country, and I wasn't showing up for work. I also realized that everything depends upon individuals taking action by voting, running for office, demanding good government through lobbying or even taking a case to court, and so on.

There is no THEY, only US, and we get the government we work for. I can't remember now why I knew the League was the best way to become politically effective, but I have been on a League board everywhere I've lived. It's my 'home' and whenever I've moved, it's helped me figure out my new location very fast."

"Through friends running for public office, I met the local LWV president.

Since joining, I've been so impressed with the people I meet through the League. They are so down-to-earth and hard-working. No big ego trips, no holier-than-thou political correctness. Just really well-informed people who are in it for the long haul.

I joined the state Lobby Corps and feel I can really make a difference and have a great time making new friends doing it."
