Appeals courts sent two lawsuits challenging Wisconsin's blocked new voter ID law directly to the state Supreme Court on Wednesday because of next week’s important elections, including the state's presidential primaries

 The New York Times reports that since a number of civic organizations, including the League of Women Voters, suspended their independent voter registration drives because of onerous restrictions imposed by the new Florida law, fewer new voters are being registered in comparison to 2008 numbers.
 

“The months leading up to November will be a rough one for the amendment as multiple groups have pledged to sue already, including Common Cause of Minnesota, the Minnesota chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, and the League of Women Voters.”

“‘It is not appropriate to have companies, who will be marketing the products, operating the board, in any way participating in the governance of the board,’ said Janet Mason, of the League of Women Voters.”
