The time has come for Congress to protect the reproductive rights of women and people who may become pregnant. This week, the Senate will vote on S4132, the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would protect abortion access nationwide by federally codifying a patient’s right to receive, and a health care provider’s right to provide, abortion services without burdensome restrictions or requirements.
Our country is at a pivotal moment in our fight for reproductive freedom. A draft opinion shows that the Supreme Court is preparing to overturn Roe v. Wade, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion, which has protected women and pregnant people for nearly 50 years. If Roe is overturned, 26 states are poised to strip more than 36 million women of reproductive age of the right to make decisions about their own bodies.
