St. Louis, Missouri— Today, the League of Women Voters of Iowa and One Iowa filed an amicus brief in the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit asking the court to uphold a lower court’s injunction on an Iowa ban on certain books in school libraries.

NEWARK – In an amicus curiae brief filed today, the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice and Campaign Legal Center – on behalf of the League of Women Voters of New Jersey, Salvation and Social Justice, New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice, New Jersey Policy Perspective, AAPI New Jersey, Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund and Asian American Advancing Justice | AAJC (collectively, “Amici”) – asked the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit to affirm the district court’s ruling in the case of Kim v. Hanlon.

Late yesterday, the League of Women Voters of Michigan filed a motion to intervene in Republican National Committee v. Benson, a lawsuit seeking to compel more aggressive purges of Michigan’s voter rolls based on unsubstantiated and flawed data. The League, represented by the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, argues that plaintiffs seek to apply an unreasonable standard for voter list maintenance, and that eligible voters will likely be removed from the rolls if the state complies with plaintiffs’ request.

A coalition of civil rights, voting rights and disability rights organizations suedto block Alabama’s recently enacted Senate Bill 1 (SB1). This law directly targets, drastically restricts, and severely penalizes basic nonpartisan civic engagement efforts that enable all Alabamians to access their right to vote.

NEWARK — In a resounding victory for democracy in New Jersey today, the Court in Kim v. Hanlon, a case challenging New Jersey’s use of the unconstitutional and discriminatory county line on its primary ballots, granted plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction – barring use of the county line on New Jersey’s ballots in the June primary election.

WASHINGTON — The League of Women Voters of the United States joined an amicus brief filed in the consolidated Idaho v. United States and Moyle v. United States cases before the US Supreme Court. The cases concern whether states can block pregnant people from getting emergency abortion care in hospitals, which if adopted, would have devastating implications for pregnant people facing medical emergencies. The amicus brief is led by the National Women’s Law Center and the League is represented by Cohen Milstein.
