The League of Women Voters of the United States, alongside its Alabama, Georgia and Kansas affiliates, filed a federal lawsuit against the executive director of the Election Assistance Commission to prevent these states from requiring documentary proof-of-citizenship when registering voters using the federal mail voter registration form.

The League was proud to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), which has helped register millions of eligible Americans.

On September 24, 2013, the League will celebrate National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) with a major voter registration event, featuring actress America Ferrera, in New York City's Bryant Park.

To help counter growing national concern about “voter suppression,” local leagues are holding voter registration days to assist citizens to get registered to vote in the next elections.
