A St. Louis attorney who filed a slate of voter reform petitions in Missouri is suing Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, alleging that Ashcroft “intentionally cherry-picked portions of the initiative petitions and described them in as loaded and pejorative terms as possible, while leaving out aspects of the initiative petitions likely to be popular with voters.” League of Women Voters of Missouri president comments.

In 2017 more than one million voters counted on the League to provide valuable information about the elections in their communities. 

“If people don’t vote and use their voice, someone will speak for them,” said Elisabeth MacNamara, chair of the League of Women Voters Education Fund.

 

“The Republican-crafted ballot language for state Issue 2 would be ‘fatal’ to the proposal and must be rewritten, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled yesterday. ... The high court sided with Voters First, the coalition that includes the League of Women Voters, Democrats and unions. The Republican-dominated high court ruled 6-1 that the Ballot Board’s effort to trim the extensive proposal for redrawing legislative and congressional districts down to five paragraphs contained ‘material omissions and factual inaccuracies.’”
