Election Assistance Commission (EAC)

The League joined more than 30 organizations in urging the House Administration Committee to vigorously support for the bipartisan and independent U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

The League joined a letter in support of an amendment to the financial services and general government appropriations bill that would restore funding for the Election Assistance Commission.

The League sent a memo to members of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government urging them to reject provisions in the Financial Services Appropriation Bill, HR 115, that would terminate the Election Assistance Commission.

The League sent a memo to members of the U.S. House opposing HR 634, the Election Assistance Commission Termination Act.

The League joined a letter sent to the Committee on House Administration opposing legislation that would terminate the Presidential Election Campaign Fund and the Election Assistance Commission.

"We will appeal to protect the critical rights of voters in these three states, especially during this election year,” said Chris Carson, president of the League of Women Voters U.S.

“If the illegal action is allowed to stand there will be substantial and continuing harm to voters and to our organizations,” said President MacNamara.

The League of Women Voters of the United States, alongside its Alabama, Georgia and Kansas affiliates, filed a federal lawsuit against the executive director of the Election Assistance Commission to prevent these states from requiring documentary proof-of-citizenship when registering voters using the federal mail voter registration form.

The League filed a Temporary Restratining order (TRO) and injunction enjoining the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) and Executive Director Brian Newby from enforcing the decision granting state requests to amend the national uniform mail-in voter registration form to require documentary proof of citizenship.
