The League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area Visits the Fairfax City Office of Elections to Thank Election Officials

The League of Women Voters is proud to announce Adam Ambrogi as Senior Director for Voting and Elections. Adam joins the League’s growing team and will expand the organization’s impact on voting rights and election administration.

Today the League of Women Voters of the United States’ president Dr. Deborah Turner and CEO Virginia Kase Solomón issued the following joint statement on the anniversary of the January 6th attack at the US Capitol:

We applaud President Biden for elevating the need for the For the People Act and we urge him to use the full weight of the presidency to see this bill become law.

The nation has seen a resurgence of anti-voter bills. These bills are an existential threat to our country and the promise of one person, one vote. They put forward oppressive measures and unjust barriers that make our fundamental right to vote increasingly difficult, particularly for Black and brown Americans.

The best tool to counter these denials of the freedom to vote is the For the People Act.

League of Women Voters of the United States CEO Virginia Kase issued the following statement in response to the US House of Representatives passing HR1, the For the People Act.

The League sent a memo to Congress urging them to include policies in the next COVID-19 stimulus bill that that will protect our elections, protect all families regardless of immigration status, and re-classify the District of Columbia, while continuing to help families, communities, and workers facing hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Local elections officials are in a unique position to take steps—right now—to protect voters’ rights and address voters’ safety concerns.

The League of Women Voters of Ohio filed an amicus brief in the case Ex Rel. Ohio Democratic Party v. Frank LaRose. The case concerns when and how to conduct Ohio’s rescheduled primary election in light of last week’s postponement due to COVID-19.

LWVCT's Carol Reimers joined CT SOS Denise Merrill,  Rep. Jim Himes, & UConn Center for Voting Tech.'s Alex Russell to raise awareness on election security.
