Health Care

We've been lobbying to make sure the healthcare exchanges required by the ACA comply with the National Voter Registration Act. This week, we asked the president for voluntary compliance.

"This is an important voting rights issue that can no longer be ignored," said League President Elisabeth MacNamara.

“This is disappointing and a further call to action for regulation of ozone pollution that puts American’s health first and foremost,” said Elisabeth MacNamara, president of the League of Women Voters of the United States.

The League joined an amicus brief in King v. Burwell that focused on the impact of the Affordable Care Act on women’s health, arguing that the tax subsidies are essential to women’s health and the ACA’s continued viability.

The Affordable Care Act has brought us closer to what we should be: a nation that ensures affordable, quality healthcare for all. Today's decision reinforces the bedrock of our healthcare system.

The League signed on to a letter asking U.S. Senators and Representatives to cosponsor legislation that would help protect the environment and public health from the risks of oil and gas production including hydraulic fracturing. The set of bills is commonly referred to as the "Frack Pack."

"We hope that President Obama will side with the thousands of League activists who have urged him to fully reject the pipeline after a complete review is finalized by the State Department," said President MacNamara.

“Today, President Obama stood up for the future of our environment and for the health and well-being of Americans,” President MacNamara said.

In honor of our 95th anniversary, here's a list of six things Americans like you have in part because of the League's work at the local, state and national level.

“It is time for President Obama to follow through on his promise to veto this misguided legislation,” said League President Elisabeth MacNamara.
