Keystone XL Pipeline
The League joined a letter lead by the Indigenous Environmental Network urging the President and Vice President to shut down the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) .
With the rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline, President Obama has proven that he is committed to putting the American people before polluters through his Climate Action Plan.
“The League applauds the historic step made by the Obama Administration to fully reject the Keystone XL pipeline,” said Elisabeth MacNamara, president of the League of Women Voters of the United States.
"We hope that President Obama will side with the thousands of League activists who have urged him to fully reject the pipeline after a complete review is finalized by the State Department," said President MacNamara.
The League joined coalition partners on a letter thanking President Obama for his veto of legislation that would force approval of the Keystone XL pipeline.
“Today, President Obama stood up for the future of our environment and for the health and well-being of Americans,” President MacNamara said.
“It is time for President Obama to follow through on his promise to veto this misguided legislation,” said League President Elisabeth MacNamara.
“The President must veto. Keystone is not in our national interest,” says League President Elisabeth MacNamara.
"Today's Keystone decision is encouraging and puts the health and safety of Americans ahead of blind reliance on fossil fuels," said President MacNamara.
In 2009, League members came together to develop the League’s Climate Change Task Force. Local and state Leagues are committed to addressing environmental concerns that arise in their communities.
