U.S. House

WASHINGTON, DC — League of Women Voters of the United States issued a statement in response to the House passage of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.

Congress attached legislation to update how votes are counted and cast by the Electoral College to the omnibus appropriations bill that passed in the final days of the 117th Congress.

Current bipartisan proposals would clarify existing ambiguities in the legislation around the role of the Vice President and the certification of electors and offer transparency around how electors are appointed.

The League of Women Voters joined more than 25 other groups in urging the House of Representatives to codify the Office of Congressional Ethics into law, as well as to give it subpoena authority.

The US Senate must follow suit and pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act.

A memo to members of the U.S. House supports H. Res. 513, which reaffirms the importance of democracy and the freedoms that it brings.

LWVUS sent Congresswoman Barbara Lee a formal letter supporting H.R. 1923, the Women’s History and Nineteenth Amendment Centennial Quarter Dollar Coin Program Act.

LWVUS seeks to find common ground with lawmakers as H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act moves forward in Committee this fall.

The League joined letters to the Census Project and other affiliates calling on Congress to support the funding levels for the Census Bureau appropriated in the FY 2020 Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill.

The League joined more than 30 organizations in urging the House Administration Committee to vigorously support for the bipartisan and independent U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

The League urged Representatives to support HR4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act.
