WASHINGTON — Today the League of Women Voters of the United States CEO Virginia Kase Solomón issued the following statement in response to Speaker Nancy Pelosi announcement to step down from House leadership: 

LWV of Texas called on the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to publicly assert Texas election officials’ duty to maintain the proper voting ballot chain of custody as required by federal law, and to step in swiftly if those duties are not upheld.  

Jefferson City, Mo. — This afternoon, a judge for the Cole County Circuit Court granted a preliminary injunction in our LWV MO and Missouri NAACP v. Missouri lawsuit, which blocks enforcement of several provisions in H.B. 1878 that criminalizes voter engagement activity and distribution of absentee ballot applications conducted by civic engagement groups.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Today, the League of Women Voters of Tennesee and the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee secured a court order to protect the right to vote of hundreds, if not thousands, of Davidson County voters who would have been unable to vote in the races for their districts on November 8 due to receiving incorrect ballots.  

Phoenix, Arizona—Today, following a hearing in a suit brought by the League of Women Voters of Arizona (LWVAZ), a federal court issued an order to block unlawful voter intimidation at ballot drop boxes.  

PHOENIX — Protect Democracy and the League of Women Voters of Arizona (LWVAZ) were pleased to see the statement addressed to all members of the Lions of Liberty and Yavapai County Preparedness Team announcing a close to Operation Drop Box

LWV of the United States and League chapters from all 50 states and DC filed an amicus brief in the Moore v. Harper case before the Supreme Court. The case concerns the so-called “independent state legislature theory” (ISLT), which, if adopted, would have far-reaching implications for the future of American democracy.

Today, Protect Democracy filed a lawsuit on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Arizona in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona in response to organizations and individuals who have conspired to intimidate voters in the 2022 election through “Operation Drop Box.”

LWV of Cupertino-Sunnyvale filed its opposition to the City of Cupertino’s motion to dismiss the federal lawsuit filed by the League that challenges the city’s “lobbyist regulation” ordinance.

LWVUS and LWV of Alabama stood in solidarity with Alabama voters in Merrill v. Milligan as it was heard before the US Supreme Court. Both Leagues had previously submitted an amicus brief in support of the Milligan plaintiffs.
