Brooke Leonard is Chief of Staff of the League of Women Voters of the United States, where she oversees strategic operations, board relations, and organizational effectiveness. With over two decades of experience in the nonprofit and association sectors, she brings deep expertise in organizational development, governance, strategy implementation, and building inclusive, high-performing cultures. 

Prior to joining the League, Brooke served for nine years as vice president of Strategic Initiatives and chief of staff at the American Alliance of Museums. In that role, she led board and staff operations, strategic partnerships, and major fieldwide programming. During her tenure, she directed the implementation of two transformative strategic plans, including several groundbreaking initiatives focused on social impact, board governance, and diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion. In her final year at AAM, Brooke was appointed interim CEO, successfully guiding the organization through a critical leadership transition. 

Brooke began her professional career in cultural diplomacy and international relations, working in Washington, DC, and Moscow, Russia, for the American Councils for International Education, directing operations for a foreign-policy think tank, and later managing a cultural exchange program for the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College and holds a Master’s Degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
