Margarett Barnes is a retired US Army brigadier general with more than 32 years of military service and extensive experience in public administration, organizational leadership, and strategic planning. Throughout her military career, she led complex organizations, managed high-stakes operations, and developed long-term strategies to address evolving challenges, bringing a collaborative and mission-focused approach to leadership. 

Margarett served as president of the League of Women Voters of the Jackson Area, where she has led efforts to expand voter education, strengthen civic participation, and build community engagement. She is recognized for her integrity, thoughtful leadership, and ability to unite diverse stakeholders around shared goals while advancing the League's mission. 

Drawing on decades of executive leadership experience, Margarett is committed to strengthening democratic participation, promoting good governance, and ensuring that the League remains a trusted, nonpartisan voice for voters. She believes that broad civic engagement, inclusive leadership, and strong grassroots organizations are essential to building resilient communities and protecting democracy.
