How are you Spending National Voter Registration Day?

Blog / Last Updated:

National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) is just around the corner! This year, a record-breaking 400 League of Women Voters affiliates nationwide have already signed up to hit the streets and help register voters as part of National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 25. We’ll be joined by thousands of exciting organizations, companies, celebrities, and everyday Americans taking part in the day. We all have one goal in mind: make sure every American has the opportunity to vote this year.

With so much at stake for all Americans this election year, now is the critical time for each of us to ask our friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family members if their voter registration is up-to-date.

Millions of Americans miss the chance to vote because they missed their state’s voter registration deadlines, or didn’t have access to clear information about how to register. We’re determined to change that.

League volunteers will be out in full force at more than 400 local registration events on September 25. In DC, League volunteers are headed to a Washington Nationals baseball game to help voters get the info they need. In Sussex County, Delaware, League leaders are partnering with the local technical college, the YMCA, the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice, and the Delaware Hispanic Commission to empower voters. And in Johnson County, Iowa, volunteers will head to four local libraries to make sure patrons are registered! These are just a few examples of the exciting events happening all over the country.

If people you know have questions about voter registration or the voting process, point them toward VOTE411.org– the League’s year-round source for accurate and localized elections information, or find a local NVRD event in your area. Can’t make it out in person? Encourage your social networks, email contacts, friends, and family to register to vote or update their registration if they’ve moved, changed their name, or changed their political affiliation since the last election. Check out #NationalVoterRegistrationDay for great shareable content and graphics across social media.

NVRD partners are on track to register hundreds of thousands of voters on September 25. We couldn’t be prouder to be part of this historic effort.
