The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS) was established in 1920 as an outgrowth of the 72-year struggle to win voting rights for women in the United States. LWVUS is a nonprofit, non-partisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League’s activist network derives its strength from the energy and commitment of more than 100,000 supporters and member volunteers nationwide and operates at national, state, and local levels through 750 state and local Leagues, in all 50 states.
The headquarters of the League of Women Voters is located in Washington, DC along with the operations of the League of Women Voters Education Fund.
Position SummaryReporting to the Senior Director of Finance and Administration, the senior accountant is responsible for the preparation, review, and ongoing analysis of all financial information pertaining to LWVUS and LWV Education Fund and assists with the coordination and preparation of the annual budget for LWVUS and Education Fund. This person will also prepare special accounting studies, reports, and other financial analyses as projects arise.
Position ResponsibilitiesPrepare accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with our established schedule and with input from the rest of the accounting department

Conduct monthly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance

Oversee the preparation of the bi-weekly payroll

Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the Senior Director of Finance and Administration's attention.

Review all inter-company transactions and generate transfer sheets as necessary

Develop and implement policies and procedures that will result in sound fiscal management, strong internal controls, and effective management of organization assets.

Assist the Sr Director of Finance and Administration and Sr Operations Manager, with the preparation of the annual budget.

Work with staff to ensure projections are reflective of past trends and incorporate any new data.

Prepare special accounting studies, analyses, and statistical reports.
Minimum
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.

CPA Preferred
-
3-5 years of finance or accounting experience.
-
2 years of experience in an accounting/finance role with 501(c)(4) and/or 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organizations.

Tax experience preferred but not required

Strong quantitative skills and great attention to detail

Strong working knowledge of Excel

Ability to work well with other staff and outside vendors

Ability to multi-task and approach work in a detailed manner

Ability to prioritize work in order to meet goals and deadlines

Ability to keep sensitive information confidential

Grant accounting and reporting experience.

Knowledge of Intacct, bill.com, ADP, and Nexonia.
