Communications Manager

Position Summary

The League of Women Voters of the United States is seeking a Communications Manager to manage internal communication efforts. This position is a key member of the Communications team, reporting to the Communications & Digital Strategy Senior Director and working closely with staff and state leaders to build and implement our internal messaging. The person in this position will be responsible for day-to-day internal communications needs and developing a variety of communications materials to support the hundreds of state and local chapters of the organization. Responsibilities will also include contributing ideas for a campaign to leverage the organization's 100th anniversary in 2020. Candidates for this job will have strong writing skills, work well independently on deadlines and also think collaboratively in a team setting.


  • Responsible for daily implementation of internal communication throughout the League network
  • Work in collaboration with Communications team for overall strategy development
  • Ensure League initiatives are successfully communicated to volunteers and leaders
  • Draft communications tools and templates including: talking points, one-pagers, press releases, letters to the editor, sample social media posts, and email copy on key League impact issues
  • Coordinate messaging and internal communications in support of the League’s 100th Anniversary in 2020
  • Communicate between departments to maintain consistency of message and support the organization’s e-mail program
  • Track media coverage of state and local League chapters


  • 4-6 years of communications experience, prefer non-profit and advocacy work or membership organization
  • Strong writing, editing and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to be flexible, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to a fast pace and changing environment
  • Ability to work independently and manage individual projects, but also function well as a team player
  • Commitment to the League’s mission and a passion for voting rights


  • Undergraduate degree

  • Background in strategic communications, particularly with national nonprofit, political and/or issue campaign experience desired

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) / Office 365 experience preferred

  • Adobe Creative Suite experience preferred

  • Experience working with email software including Salsa Labs preferred
