LWVUS and LWVOR submitted an amicus brief to the 9th Circuit in the case of Juliana v. U.S. The brief argues in favor of the young plaintiffs arguing that it is the job of the federal government to protect them from the damaging effects of climate change. The brief also argues that it is the job of the courts to address claims that are asserted by the politically powerless and the courts should act to fulfill that vital function by allowing the merits of this case to proceed to the trial process.
