After the 2018 election, the outgoing WI legislature called a special session and passed several bills aimed at undermining the new governor. LWVWI sued, contending that the session was unconstitutional.

The lawsuit contends that because the Legislature unconstitutionally convened the December 2018 “extraordinary session,” all business conducted during the “extraordinary session” is void and unenforceable.

Voter ID laws can make it difficult for homeless people to vote. In Wisconsin, the League is working to help homeless voters exercise their rights.

Today the Supreme Court ruled that the plaintiffs failed to demonstrate standing in the case of Gill v. Whitford, a case which challenged the state of Wisconsin’s assembly map as an example of partisan gerrymandering.

The justices left the door open for future challenges to partisan gerrymanders.
