Ask this Local League a Question
In addition to the radio ads, we recently aired in Maine and Tennessee on the importance of disclosure in general, our state and local Leagues across the country have also been working hard to ensure their Senators know we want them to stop secret spending and to give the voters the information they need to make informed decisions. Below are just some of the Letters to the Editors and Op Eds that our state and local Leagues have succeeded in getting published on the importance of disclosure.
Didn’t want you to miss this recent article in the National Journal! League President Elisabeth MacNamara and Senior Elections Director Jeanette Senecal are among the “foes” in this piece on how the “Foes of Voter ID Laws Find Ways to Mute Their Impact.”
“For the first time in [NH] state history, voters will be asked to show IDs at the polls this fall, after the Republican-led Legislature overturned a veto from Gov. John Lynch on Wednesday.”
“New Hampshire’s Democratic governor vetoed a voting law passed by the state’s Republican-controlled legislature today, saying it ‘would put into place a photo identification system that is far more restrictive than necessary.’”
“House Democratic Leader Terie Norelli, D-Portsmouth, called it a ‘voter suppression’ bill. Other critics, such as the League of Women Voters-NH, have said it will unfairly affect the poor, the elderly and minorities in the state.”
“The League of Women Voters of New Hampshire decries the current state of political financing in our nation. Rather than focusing on the concerns of voters, campaigns focus too heavily on raising money.”
