Indianapolis –  A federal judge has ruled that the Anderson, IN, City Council’s failure to draw fair council maps violates the US Constitution and fair maps must be drawn.  
 

LWVs of Indiana County honored National Voter Registration Day, a one-day nationwide, nonpartisan effort to register voters, voter information and resource table at the Indiana Free Library.

A new group is working to revive efforts to establish a League of Women Voters chapter in Kosciusko County, Indiana.

From January – August 2023, state legislatures nationwide passed various bills into law. While following these developments, the League noticed several important trends around voting rights and election administration.

LWV of Indiana and local voting rights organizations filed a federal lawsuit against the city’s Common Council for failing to draw new district maps before the Dec. 31, 2022 redistricting deadline in violation of state and federal law.

I am a first-year college student. I have declared two majors, a minor, and a certificate. I am an honors student, working for my university, recently pledging with an academic fraternity, with four club meetings a week on top of classes, social events, and family commitments. I understand every reason why you would choose to abstain from voting in the May 2023 primary election, believe me, I deeply understand aggressively avoiding another commitment.

But voting is an act of self-care, not a commitment.
