The Freeport League of Women Voters, now into its 10th decade of existence, continues to take stands on such issues as: taxation reform; campaign ethics; children’s services; immigration policies;
In addition to the work the League does to defend the environment at the national level, in 2009 members came together to develop the League’s Climate Change Task Force. Local and state Leagues are also committed to addressing the specific environmental concerns that arise in their communities.
A new law in Illinois allows 17-years-olds to vote in the primary election if they'll be 18 in time for the November general election. Following passage of the law, the League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford registered 304 new young voters!
We all have the right to know what our government is doing, both its successes and failures. Exercising our right to know gives us, the public, power.
