The League of Women Voters of the United States congratulated Speaker McCarthy on his historic election to the Speaker of the House. LWVUS hopes to work with Speaker McCarthy’s office to prioritize the issues that impact our democracy and the American people the most.

The League of Women Voters of the United States congratulates you on your historic election to the Speaker of the House. We look forward to working with your office and prioritizing the issues that impact our democracy and the American people the most.

The League is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government. We remain committed to protecting every person’s freedom to vote. Founded in 1920, just six months before the 19^th Amendment was ratified, we are comprised of more than 500,000 members and supporters across more than 750 local and state League chapters nationwide. The League focuses on advocacy, education, litigation, and organizing to achieve our mission to empower voters and defend democracy.  

We welcome the 118^th Congress, and we look forward to this body getting to the important work of governing this great nation.
