Advocates Unite Against Hate Rally

Press Release / Last Updated:

Washington, DC - This Sunday, white nationalists plan to demonstrate in Washington, D.C., on the anniversary of the 'Unite the Right' rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, a violent white nationalist event that killed three and left dozens injured last year. Today, the Anti-Defamation League, the League of Women Voters, Muslim Advocates, and the NAACP issued the following joint statement on the eve of this hateful demonstration:

“There is no place for hate and violence in our democracy. Our organizations oppose white supremacy and we denounce hate in all of its forms. We call on all politicians and elected officials to speak out against hate groups and individuals that incite violence.

“Peaceful protest is a cornerstone of our great democracy, but this event is based on discrimination and hate. We therefore stand in direct opposition of the 'Unite the Right' message with our own:

We believe there is strength and beauty in our diversity, and that love, not hate, is the way to unite our country.

“As Americans, we know that there is much more that unites us than divides us. We stand in solidarity with our partners against the hateful forces trying to divide this great country.”
