WASHINGTON — This weekend, the League of Women Voters of the United States elected a new national board of directors that will serve through June 2024. Dr. Deborah Ann Turner, who was elected in 2020, will remain as the organization’s Board President for the next two years.
“I am honored League members continue to trust me as President of the Board of the League of Women Voters of the United States for the next biennium,” said Dr. Deborah Turner. “We have a lot of work to do. Our democracy is under attack, and voters are counting on the League to do everything it takes to protect voting rights. I am confident in this new board to lead the League with vision and strategy through the next two years.”
The newly elected board under President Dr. Turner includes:
- Sania Irwin, Vice President
- Toni Monette, Secretary
- Leah Edwards, Treasurer
- Melissa Breach
- Kimberly A. Hamlin
- Vedna Heywood
- Joan Hunault
- Alexis Juday-Marshall
- Allison Riggs
- Monica Skoko Rodríguez
- Dianna Wynn
More than one thousand League delegates from all 50 states and the District of Columbia attended the League’s 55th National Convention, online and in Denver, Colorado from June 23-26. Convention was marked by the devastating news from the Supreme Court, overturning the constitutional right to abortion. In her remarks to convention attendees, Dr. Turner promised, "We will use our anger to fight in the legislatures, in the courts, and in the streets." League members demonstrated with partners and allies at protests in Denver and around the country.
The event included a keynote address from MSNBC’s Joy Reid.
