WASHINGTON — Today League of Women Voters of the United States CEO Virginia Kase Solomón issued the following statement after the US House of Representatives passed bipartisan gun safety legislation:
“We are pleased to see the House address the continuous threat of gun violence and protect our communities and our children in schools. This legislation is long overdue and what our country needs at a time when gun violence is claiming lives daily.
"Thirty years without gun reform have cost too many lives. People should feel safe at grocery stores, movie theaters, places of worship, and all public spaces. Children should be safe from gun violence while they learn. This legislation is a step in the right direction to restoring public safety everywhere.
"The League will continue pushing for further protections. Congress has done their part, and it's now on President Biden to sign this legislation into law.”
