Supreme Court Upholds Discriminating Travel Ban

Washington, DC – Today the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that the Trump Administration's travel ban is within the president’s authority. The League of Women Voters president, Chris Carson, issued the following statement in response to today's ruling:

“The Court got this one wrong. President Trump’s travel ban targets Muslim nations and is a violation of religious freedom. We are a country of immigrants and must treat those wishing to come to this country with dignity and in accordance to the protections of our Constitution. This travel ban is not only wrong and bad for our country, it is simply un-American.

“The League of Women Voters is opposed to discrimination, including discrimination in immigration, based on religion. We believe immigration policy in this country should be responsive to those facing political persecution or humanitarian crises and that all persons should receive fair treatment under the law.”
