On August 8, 2026, the League will host civic engagement actions across the country in honor of the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.

What we are witnessing is an egregious and unprecedented federal intervention into a certified election. We are deeply concerned about the FBI activity in Fulton County that began on January 28, 2026. The situation is unsettling, but let’s be clear: Georgia’s elections are secure, and the 2020 election results are final. Federal actions—no matter how disruptive—do not override established law or alter settled outcomes.

UPDATE: A federal judge in Georgia denied the plaintiffs request for emergency relief, ensuring that all valid absentee ballots turned in through the Election Day deadline will be counted. 

The League of Women Voters of Georgia, Georgia State Conference of the NAACP, and Georgia Coalition for the People’s Agenda filed an amicus brief in Republican National Committee v. Mahoney to ensure that absentee ballots received over the weekend are counted.

DeKalb, Georgia — Today, the League of Women Voters of Georgia, Georgia State Conference of the NAACP, New Georgia Project, Georgia Coalition for the People’s Agenda, A. Philip Randolph Institute, and Common Cause Georgia, represented by Advancement Project, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Southern Poverty Law Center, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and Arnold & Porter, filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit that is currently pending in state court (DeKalb County Superior Court)
