The League filed a brief in the case of Common Cause v. Rucho with the Supreme Court on October 31. The League, represented by Campaign Legal Center and Southern Coalition for Social Justice, is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to affirm the district court decision because the judgments of two lower level courts came to the same conclusion-- the NC maps are a partisan gerrymander. This case has been combined with the case LWV v. Rucho.
The Latest from the League
The case of League of Women Voters of North Carolina v. Rucho challenges North Carolina’s 2016 congressional redistricting plan, arguing the plan violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.
The LWVNC v. Rucho case is a partisan gerrymandering challenge to the North Carolina congressional map. Partisan gerrymandering is the practice of drawing electoral district lines in a way that discriminates against a political party.
