Activists Across the Country are “Dropping by” for Democracy

Blog / Last Updated:

Today, League members and activists across the country are dropping by Congressional offices across the country in support of democracy reforms.

Activists are arranging in-person meetings with incoming members of the 116th House of Representatives and dropping in to have conversations with staff members on the need for HR 1, the first bill that the House plans to take up in January.

HR 1 will include key democracy provisions that will modernize our election system, reform redistricting, restore the Voting Rights Act, and end the influence of big money. We need to protect voting rights with reforms like modernizing and updating the Voting Rights Act, passing automatic voter registration and same-day registration, and establishing strong redistricting guidelines to combat voter suppression.

Together, we have the power to influence this reform and it will take all of us, working together, to speak out and demand change.

In November, voters sent a clear message that they are ready for bold, comprehensive democracy reforms. The incoming Congress is comprised of fired up individuals ready to get to work and implement the change people want.

Today, voters are reinforcing that message by "dropping by" for democracy. This is the first step and the incoming Congress gives us an opportunity to advance this solution and build momentum for the future. Together, we have the power to influence this reform and it will take all of us, working together, to speak out and demand change.
