REPORT: Making 30+ Million Voter Contacts in 2024 Election

Blog / Last Updated:

In today's political climate, it's more important than ever to ensure every person has the opportunity to make their voice heard. That's what we do at the League: empower all voters, across gender, race, political party, geographic location, language, and more.

We knew that the 2024 federal election was a crucial opportunity to engage voters. Reflecting on the tireless work of our 1 million members and supporters in our newly published election report, we're proud to say that our community did so with gusto.

Voter Outreach

Leagues made more than 30 million voter contacts ahead of the election. These contacts took many forms, including email, direct mail, text banks, in-person canvassing, social media, phone banks, our relational organizing app League in Action, radio, billboards, and our one-stop shop for election information, VOTE411.org.

9.19 million users received essential election information from the bilingual VOTE411. VOTE411 covered nearly 56k candidates in nearly 29k races, and launched a new campaign finance feature allowing people to see the financial backers of federal candidates. VOTE411 also provided emergency information to states impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

These contacts featured specific efforts to reach Spanish-speaking communities, with 1.8 million Spanish-language ads, even more bilingual mailings, and social media collaborations.

Leagues also engaged heavily with young voters, hosting more than 1,500 young voter registration events nationwide and partnering with SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment to connect with college students.

Defending Democracy (and Voting Rights)

Leagues protected 9.3 million voters through election-related litigation. These cases represented covered 25 of the 50 states, and 85% had a diversity, equity, and inclusion impact.

Legal action wasn't the only way the League worked to strengthen democracy. In spring 2024, LWVUS launched the One Person One Vote campaign to abolish the Electoral College and work towards a more representative method of electing the president. In the years to come, One Person One Vote will organize our efforts to ensure the people's will is known and protected.

Partnering for Democracy

The League partnered with 43 major brands, associations, sports teams, nonprofits, and media outlets to expand voter outreach. Through these partnerships, volunteers attended basketball games, LUSH stores, Broadway shows, Pride Parades, and more!

We were also featured on media outlets like Morning Joe and Teen Vogue to share the importance of voter registration.

We were honored to have former Vice President Kamala Harris recognize the League alongside other voting rights organizations, sharing a picture of LWVUS President Dianna Wynn registering voters with the Wake County (NC) League on her Instagram. While we don’t endorse candidates or political parties, we view every opportunity to share nonpartisan voter resources as a win.

The League is incredibly proud of the hard work of our volunteers and supporters. No matter how chaotic a political moment may feel, empowering voters and defending democracy is always something to recognize and honor.
